Why Your Pelvic Floor May Feel Tight, Weak, or Disconnected
Many women are told to simply “strengthen the pelvic floor,” but the problem is often more complex than weakness alone.
Sometimes the pelvic floor can feel tight, disconnected, or difficult to control because the whole body is not working together well. You may feel like you need more strength, but what your body actually needs first is better breathing, coordination, and support.
Common signs can include difficulty feeling your lower abs, pressure during workouts, lower back tension, holding your breath during exercises, hip tightness, constantly gripping your stomach, or feeling unstable and disconnected from your body.
The pelvic floor does not work in isolation. It works together with your breathing, rib cage movement, deep core muscles, and pelvis position.
When one part of this system is not moving or supporting well, another part may start overworking.
For example, if your breathing is shallow or your body is constantly bracing, the pelvic floor may also stay tense and overactive. Over time, this can make it harder to relax, connect, or feel proper support during movement.
That is why simply squeezing harder is not always the best answer. Instead, it often helps to improve breathing mechanics, reconnect the ribs and pelvis, reduce unnecessary tension, move more slowly, and rebuild core control gradually.
The goal is to help the pelvic floor work as part of the whole body — not as something you constantly have to force or hold.
Inside my Mobility Library, I share a Movement Insight article about the connection between breathing pattern and the pelvic floor — why the way you breathe can affect how the pelvic floor relaxes, supports, and responds during movement.
You’ll also find there gentle routines focused on breathing, core connection, pelvic floor awareness, and full-body mobility, so you can rebuild support step by step without pressure or overthinking → Explore the Mobility Library
